What can you say about the best city in the world, that’s not already been said? New York, New York, there’s a reason so many songs…movies…shows…and dreams have had you as their subject.
Is it sad I just got butterflies writing that?
We love New York. And although I’ve visited numerous times before, I had never stayed longer than a weekend. So Nate and I decided to use his time off work this year to plan an extended trip. Not to mention, two of my good friends (Kat + Margaret) live in the city and we got to play with them all week. AAAAlso, my lil California born husband has never been to the city, which made the trip even more thrilling. I kept staring at his face like a weirdo for the first few hours we were there, hoping to catch a dramatic expression of shock and awe that he was seeing Manhattan for the first time. He delivered, for sure, but mostly kept breaking out in Kanye’s “Flashing Lights” chorus.
Anyway, I could go on and on. The moral of the story is- New York is cool. We like it. And here’s some photos of what we did.
The first few photos are from Freeman’s Restaurant for our first boozy brunch of the week. I’m not going to lie to you, I picked the restaurant partly because a previous guest had posted a yelp photo of John Mayer eating there. Which didn’t disappoint because we did see our one and only celeb (Carla) there while waiting for a table. I PLAYED IT COOL.
Some other highlights and photos are strolling through central park (it was only a meer 97 degrees out that day), headed up to the MET and rooftop garden (yes.), followed by the Conservatory Garden near Harlem later that week, a picnic on Cherry Hill, Stumptown Coffee near Washington Square Park (much anticipated), a lil bit of Brooklyn Heights, and the High Line in Chelsea.
The week was magical. And did I mention the guest star appearance of my parents? They drove in for a couple days of the trip (it’s only a 7 hour drive from my hometown) which was SO GREAT. My parents have to be some of the most fun people anyone has ever met. I mean, they threw us an impromptu gourmet picnic and carted us around in uber black cars. (if uber black cars means anything to you, then you know that it…means everything to you).
These photos are just some of the highlights of the trip, and to add onto those, here’s a short list of other things we loved doing/eating/visiting.
